Dementia Care

Minute Women Home Care, the dementia care specialists, helps those living with dementia maintain an exceptional quality of life. We provide dedicated, trained and experienced in-home dementia care and personal assistance to ensure every senior receives the level of customized attention needed to feel safe, secure, and age-in-place. Every person’s journey with dementia is unique. It is not one size fits all, which is why we invest in a detailed assessment of your loved one’s needs at the beginning of care and throughout their journeyWe focus on the person behind the memory disease by providing personalized dementia care.

Many home care companies say they provide dementia care services on their website or  when you speak to them in-person.  If you were to ask follow up questions about their training (both upfront and on-going) and how they focus specifically on dementia, you will likely find these services are basic and rudimentary.  They are what we call “dementia-lite” care services.

How Our Dementia Care Service Helps Makes a Difference

Our mission is to match long-term caregivers with long-term clients to provide exceptional dementia care to our clients which allows them to live with dignity and respect. We invest in our caregivers with person-centered dementia training when they are hired, as well as on-going training and access to a training app that they can review at their leisure. We also provide them with client-specific training based on their client’s dementia symptoms and behaviors.

Every person deserves a safe and supportive environment that balances daily care with independence.  Minute Women is focused on providing our clients with mid and late stage dementia premier care which allows them to age-in-place safely.

We regularly receive feedback from adult children saying that Minute Women has been a rock for them.  The direct care from our memory care professionals, and the support and education from our office team enables them to rest easy knowing we are caring for their parents. We have given them the gift of being able to step out of the caregiver role and allowed them to be an adult child again.

We received a call from Dan’s wife Kelly, who made the choice that her husband needed personalized, one-on-one care in his memory care community.

Dan had been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s and was wandering in and out of other resident’s rooms. Needless to say, this behavior caused a lot of stress and frustration in the unit.

We know that memory impairments make change even more difficult for seniors, so with that in mind, Kelly wanted Dan to feel at home as long as possible. Our caregivers became Dan’s shadow and kept him safe in common areas and his own room.

They were able to balance his dignity and his personal boundaries. We cared for Dan for over six months until he was moved into a nursing home. Kelly was grateful we could facilitate her husband’s transition into Alzheimer’s care.

In-Home Dementia Care

In-facility Dementia Care

Leaving one’s home and moving into an Assisted Living community is a big change that often is the right move at the time, but as a loved one’s memory disease progresses what once worked may not work anymore. Memory changes can lead to issues and/or behaviors that jeopardize your loved one’s ability to remain safely in their apartment, whether it is in traditional or memory care. The 1:1 supervision, support and in-facility care our caregivers provide may be the answer. Moving your loved one to another apartment or facility can be traumatic and cause more memory issues and/or behaviors. When a person with dementia moves into a facility, it’s usually because their condition has progressed to the point that living at home is no longer an option, or the best option.

1:1 Care

However many facilities and communities can only provide a limited amount of 1:1 care per resident which can become challenging if your loved one’s needs require more than is offered. Our caregivers are able to provide the additional 1:1 care that your loved one needs for as long as they need it. This prevents another disruptive move. .

Comm.

Communication

Open communication and collaboration with senior living communities is imperative to ensure proper care and safety are being maintained and provided.  In the end, you are our customer and you will have the final say in how we deliver care, but we recommend working in tandem with your community partners.

Adaptive

We have helped seniors in all types of facilities including hospitals and nursing homes, but the most common facilities are independent living communities and assisted living/memory care facilities. No matter the living situation there is always ways to help improve and overall better the physical location where ones stays.

Couples Care

As couples grow older together, they often support and care for each other. But what happens when both people develop dementia, or each is in a different stage of their disease? Or when one spouse has dementia and the other doesn’t?

Couples Care is ideal for this situation. Our Couples Care memory care professionals are specialists, who have been trained and educated in dementia care using education programming  endorsed by the Alzheimer’s Association, but their expertise extends beyond that. These specialized caregivers not only manage the often vastly different needs of both spouses, they also act as a buffer when spouses are agitating each other or interfering in the other’s care.+

We can provide couples care services in both assisted living and residential homes.  While it is more common in a house or private residence, there are many assisted living communities who have couples in the same apartment who are living with dementia and are happy to stay where they are.
