This is the second post in the What We Read This Month series which shares all of my favorite articles over the past month.  It was busy with the holidays and work, so not as much information in this one, but I wanted to get as much as I have read through out to our readers.

What I Read This Month

There is an awful lot of junk to sort through every month so here are my picks for the best.

Dementia & Disease

A great article, 101 activities for those with Alzheimer’s, but some families are looking to overseas for their long term care options for dementia.

We spoke about Mediterranean diet last month, but yet again, it pops up as a major way to prevent dementia along with these healthy behaviors, but in the end the estimates show dementia will be very high by 2050.

Insurance, Hospitals, Assisted Living, and Nursing Homes

Some apps are now able to help seniors by bringing the doctor to you and investments in senior technology is rising quickly.

The Affordable Care Act looks to have saved millions of dollars on prescriptions for seniors.

Good news for hospitals and nursing homes, re-admissions fell A LOT in 2013.

Home Care & Fall Prevention

A new study shows that 2/3 of people over 65 need help, one way to help is to prevent falls from heights and over-reaching for items.

States are looking to tighten rules on home health aides, which is great considering home health workers continue to increase.

Family Caregiving

A fine article on ways to relieve caregiver stress, with more information here about how to care for the caregiver.

Not only is caregiver stress an issue but finding a balance with this article between yourself and being a caregiver.

If you need a pick-me-up, which we all need at some point, here are 17 reasons why you are awesome!

Well that should keep you busy for a few hours or so.  If you like we have, please share this so it gets out to more and more people!  Did I miss any great stories? Let me know about that in the comments section and thanks for reading What We Read!
